About CELEBRATE SOUND

Celebrate Sound Walk Aims Awareness of Hearing Health

The Sertoma Club of Georgetown invites everyone to CELEBRATE SOUND Don’t Walk in Silence at San Gabriel Park, Cypress Pavilion West end.

“With CELEBRATE SOUND Don’t Walk in Silence, we want to raise public awareness of hearing health issues.  The number of people affected, the age ranges affected and the health implications are much broader than the general public might suspect,” said Georgetown Sertoma Club, Speech and Hearing Co-Director Jim Wilson. “But there are things that can be done.  For instance, just through better education we can help prevent noise-inducted hearing loss, erase public stigma about hearing loss, and make public spaces more accessible to those who use assistive devices.”

The 5k Walk begins at the West end of San Gabriel Park, Cypress Pavilion and will take walkers through the park. Registration is just $20 and includes a free t-shirt (first 150 walkers) and giveaways. Participants will check in at 8:00 am before the walk officially begins at 8:30 am.

Money raised by the Georgetown Sertoma Club at this event will be used to fund both local and national hearing health projects. They include provision of hearing aids for economically disadvantaged individuals by local hearing health providers, making college scholarships available for hard of hearing and deaf students and for those pursuing graduate studies in speech-language pathology or audiology.

Headquartered and founded in Kansas City, MO, in 1912, Sertoma is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit national civic organization with community-minded members in our service clubs across North America. Sertoma’s national focus is assisting the more than 50 million people with hearing health issues and educating the public on the issues surrounding hearing health.
